Laser - Epilation: The procedure of hair removal
The
therapy is to be followed under medical supervision by assistants in
medical studios or aestheticians.
The
concept of hair reduction by laser therapy is based on the destruction of the
hair follicles that are necessary for the hair growth. Because the hair usually recovers after a certain
amount of time, more that one try might be necessary to obtain the desired
result. The laser can only affect one part in the circle of life of a hair: the
growth.
The
4 steps of the treatment:
The hairs are shaved before the beginning of the treatment.
The cooling device that is inside the scanning system is applied on the skin and its temperature drops to between 3° and 5° Celsius.
The laser light is activated, goes through the cooling device and into the tissue.
The energy is absorbed by the hair’s melanin and is strong enough to destroy the hair’s follicle and the sebaceous gland. |
The
light that is emitted by the Diode
Laser (LightSheer® and MedArt®
435)
is absorbed by the pigments in the hair bulb. Within the fraction of a second
(which is long enough to vaporise the pigments) the laser acts on the roots.
This stops the hair from growing back.
The
pain that is felt during the
treatment depends on the area and on the person. In fact, every laser impulse
feels somewhat like a stitch. Depending on the area (armpits, legs, thighs,
etc.) this “pain” is more or less bearable. Thanks to an anaesthetic cream
(Emla®) or a cooling-device the pain can be lessened a lot and the therapy can
be lengthened. Short applications of cooling bandages and creams are necessary
directly after the treatment to prevent possible skin irritations.
The
time of each treatment can be anywhere between 10 minutes and 2 hours,
depending on the size of the treated zone.
Caution: During the treatment it is absolutely compulsory to wear protective
classes.
Do
not expose the skin to sunlight (or ultraviolet rays in the solarium for
example) during at least two weeks after
the treatment. Always protect with a sun block. All other activities
(sports, leisure, work, etc.) are allowed.
